Friends of Sighthill Park

Dedicated to promoting, maintaining and improving the green spaces of Sighthill Park for people to use and enjoy

Friends of Sighthill Park

Sighthill Park is a large park, roughly 12.38 hectares in size, in the southwest of Edinburgh has flat expanses of grass which are dedicated to football and there is a well used play area and skateboard facilities. The park is also bounded by community woodlands planted at the start of the new Millennium.

The Friends of Sighthill Park is a group dedicated to promoting, maintaining and improving the green spaces of Sighthill Park for people to use and enjoy. We are exploring projects with the aim of improving our well-loved park such as tree planting, more benches and bins, creating a herb garden, improving facilities, and organising events, etc. If you have another project idea or identify a need for our park, get in touch!

Playground Area

Playgrounds help children build memories, encourage physical activity/socialisation, and ultimately make people happy. However, the fenced playground currently installed in Sighthill Park has been recognised by the local community as could do with some modernisation. We want to explore what steps we can take to raise funds for modernising our wonderful playground space for children in our community. This would work well in tandem with other potential community events, giving children in the area more ways to use the park and engage with this green space.

Sighthill skatepark is made up of all metal ramps on a tarmac base and features a mini ramp with quarter pipes, flat banks, ledges, a driveway and a kicker. Skateboard Scotland describes Sighthill skatepark as, 'an outdoor metal ramp-based skatepark. 6ft mini ramp, driveway with grind box, jump box, flat bank, rails and grind boxes. Possibly not in the best condition now as it's at least 15 years old'.

The fenced skatepark currently installed in Sighthill Park has been recognised by the local community as a priority for improvement. We are currently exploring steps with other community groups about raising funds to upgrade our local skatepark, including professional graffiti artwork and solar lights.
